Graduated from Millennium High School in Goodyear, Arizona.
Originally from San Diego, California.
Robert Obrist was on the Dean’s List each semester since he started at ASU. He appreciated the “hands on” experience he has been given in the aviation programs on the Polytechnic campus. Learning new things by actually doing the work gives him an advantage when he embarks on his career.
Why did you choose ASU?
I wanted to enroll in a university that is well known and popular among employers. ASU has received multiple awards and achievements. In addition, it has been ranked in the US News as number one for innovation. The most important factor is due to the fact that ASU is the only university that offers an aviation management program (degree).
What was a memorable moment at ASU for you?
Being awarded the outstanding graduate status! I never expected to be one of the top students in my academic program. What an achievement!
Can you name a professor that was instrumental in helping you grow?
This is a difficult question to ask. All of my professors have given me insight towards their field of expertise. For example, Professor Gary Waissi of the Technology Entrepreneurship and Management program granted me insight towards business strategy. Faculty Associate Robert Nullmeyer of the aviation program provided me with the essential aviation safety knowledge. Lecturer Jimmy Kimberly from the aviation program increased my speciality towards aircraft structures and power plants. Professor Mary Niemczyk, the head of the aviation program, challenged me to seek additional information/experience. Thus, I would not say that only one professor was instrumental towards my growth as a student. It is all of my professors!
What are your plans after graduation?
I have applied for available openings at the San Diego International Airport. Multiple department heads have contacted me for job opportunities. I am ready for employment!
One of the employee benefits is a $7,000 tuition reimbursement. With this, I decided to continue my education and apply for a master’s degree program.
